What
do our leaders have to say? Where are we in the news? What are we doing
throughout Kaiser Permanente to deal with key health issues?
This section of the Web site will expand over time, but for now, we
invite you to read a welcome from Ray
Baxter, PhD and Senior Vice President of Kaiser Permanente’s Community
Benefit Program. Please take some time also to browse the links with
the work on critical health care issues that Kaiser Permanente is doing
across the organization.
The National Centers for disease Control and Prevention
estimates about 17 percent of the nation’s children are overweight.
The rate of overweight and obese children has doubled since 1980.
With those disquieting figures in mind, Kaiser Permanente’s
Center for Health Research in Portland, Oregon recently teamed up
with Kaiser Permanente health care providers to present a series
of seven forums open to the public on the issue of childhood obesity
in the Portland and Salem, Oregon communities. Each forum teamed
our researchers, discussing their latest findings on childhood obesity,
with our medical practitioners, who offered ideas on how to help
young people be healthy and active.
