Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Kaiser Permanente Community Giving Campaign?

The Kaiser Permanente Community Giving Campaign is one of the ways we help make our communities better places to live. Money raised from the campaign supports charitable organizations that provide extremely important services in our communities, such as:

  • Supplying valuable health services
  • Fighting homelessness
  • Feeding the hungry
  • Improving education
  • Providing scholarships
  • Strengthening families
  • Empowering senior
  • Protecting the environment

How do I donate to the campaign?

As a Southern California Permanente Medical Group physician or Kaiser Permanente Southern California employee, you can contribute with regular payroll deductions or with a one-time contribution (via payroll, credit card, or check). Take the challenge and become a Leadership Donor with a contribution of $1000 or more or 1% of your salary.

Can I choose where my contribution goes?

Yes, you can choose one or more organizations as recipients of your donation. Campaign donors have a multitude of organizations to choose from when making tax-deductible contributions, including:

  • Any of KPSC’s six partner federations (Asian Pacific Community Fund, Brotherhood Crusade, Community Health Charities, Earth Share, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and United Way)
  • Any of the federations’ 300 or more member charities
  • Any other qualified 501(c)(3) organization you designate

Why is the Reach Out and Read program no longer a designated donation choice in the Community Giving Campaign?

It was necessary to end the current arrangement with Reach Out and Read to be compliant with Kaiser Permanente policies.

Can I still make a contribution to Reach Out and Read?

Absolutely. If you want to continue donating to Reach Out and Read or start a new donation, you may direct your KPCGC contribution to the national Reach Out and Read program by writing it in. If you are currently contributing to the national Reach Out and Read program, you don’t need to make a change (unless you want to increase or decrease your contributions). Again, please note that these funds will not be returned to Kaiser Permanente and that Kaiser Permanente cannot direct the use of these funds.

What is the status of the Kaiser Permanente Reach Out and Read program?

The Kaiser Permanente Reach Out and Read program is managed by Southern California Permanente Medical Group and is currently active in more than 80 Kaiser Permanente clinic locations. The internal program’s operation is separate from the Kaiser Permanente Community Giving Campaign.

How many pay periods are there for employees and physicians?

There are 24-pay periods for both employees and physicians.

What is the minimum payroll deduction?

One dollar per pay period is the minimum payroll deduction.

Is it possible to make one-time donations online?

One-time payroll deductions, check and credit card donations may be made through our secure site.

If I want to write a check, who do I make it out to?

Hard copy checks should be made payable to the agency to which the donation is being made.

What if checks are mad out to Kaiser Permanente?

They will be deposited to the Cashier’s office following the above procedure for cash deposits.

What if I want my automatic payroll deduction to continue as is from my past commitment?

Contributions roll over automatically unless you cancel them online or via paper form.

Do I have to choose exclusively from the list of agencies listed?

You may write-in any Tax-Exempt Organization 501c(3), many of which are listed online.
