Teaching children positive social skills.
A captain and his sidekick from the HMS Fellow Ship reveal their
treasure chest of riches as they help a 3rd grader navigate the
choppy waters of a playground conflict. In this lively instructional
workshop, Kaiser Permanente’s professional actor-educators
use live theatre and audience interaction to show the children
how to unlock their personal power through positive social behavior
skills.
Showing strategies that allow children to identify their feelings,
take responsibility for their actions, choose to do the right thing
and celebrate their successes, the actor-educators demonstrate
how to steer clear of hurtful confrontations. With the Keys
to Personal Power, children learn a self-talk process that leads
to positive results for themselves and others.
The children in the audience receive buttons and handouts, and teachers
receive a classroom poster – all displaying the
Keys to Personal Power.
This fun, fast-paced 45-minute workshop is free to schools and youth
groups along Colorado’s Front Range – from Longmont
to Colorado Springs.
A minimum audience size of 30 and a maximum of 70 are recommended. Approximately
6-feet by 10-feet of floor space is needed for the set – either
in a classroom, gym or community room. (The workshop is not
suited for an auditorium or stage.) 15 minutes are needed
for set-up. (More set-up time is required if the workshop
is presented in conjunction with another Kaiser Permanente Educational
Theatre program.) Up to three workshops can be presented
at the same location in one day.
