Can you provide me with more information about the programs?

  • All of our programs are provided free of charge as a community benefit of Kaiser Permanente.
  • The running time for the programs varies from 45 minutes to 1 hour in length (not including seating and dismissal)
  • Performances cannot be shortened.
  • We book performances up to one year or more in advance. We usually begin booking in March for the subsequent school year. Depending on the program, applications are prioritized by need and/or filled on a first-come first-served basis.
  • We perform for eligible public and private schools in addition to special community performances, conferences, health fairs, and other eligible groups and programs.
  • We can do up to two assemblies in one day at one location and need 30 to 45 minutes in-between to re-set the stage, props, and costumes. The number of assemblies per school is determined by school population and facility size.
  • Most programs need 2 hours to set-up and 1 hour to break-down after the show.
  • We tour in schools daily and are familiar with the challenges of bell schedules and sharing the performance room.  We will offer solutions for you to consider.

What educational materials will I receive as part of the program?

Educational Theatre Programs provides teachers, students, and parents with educational support materials that are designed to reinforce the messages taught in the program and to facilitate an ongoing dialogue about the issues. Working with teachers and health educators, and drawing on the latest health and child development information, these materials are designed to be both fun and educational. These materials include educator guides and lessons, student activity books, wallet cards with health information and hotline numbers, and a parent guide for the Nightmare on Puberty St. and Secrets programs.  To view some of the educational materials online, please visit the Parents & Teachers section of our website.

Do we need parental consent or parent permission slips?

The Nightmare on Puberty St. and Secrets programs require parental notification since both of these programs deal with issues of sexuality. Schools need to consult their district office for procedures applicable to their district. Educational Theatre Programs provides schools with sample permission slips to use if the school has been approved to do so by their district. Please visit the Parents & Teachers section of our website for Nightmare on Puberty St. and Secrets to view the sample permission slips.

Do you perform the theatre performances in other languages?

We don’t perform in other languages, however, every program has a bilingual Spanish-speaking performer. At Family Night performances we have an infra-red translation system which allows us to interpret the play simultaneously in Spanish. It can be requested for student performances as well.
