The Best Me
The Best Me is an innovative program about healthy eating and active living. The program is provided free of charge to elementary schools as a community benefit of Kaiser Permanente. The interactive student performance uses music, dance, and comedy to help elementary school students make healthier choices.
The four core messages of this program are
- To play hard or exercise for at least 60 minutes every day.
- To limit screen time to 2 hours or less each day.
- To create balanced meals by eating at least 5 fruits and vegetables every day.
- To drink water when thirsty instead of soda and juice drinks.
The Best Me is available as The Best Me Assembly, a 45-minute performance with audience participation, or The Best Me Program, a weeklong committment.
The Best Me Program, begins with a teacher and principal orientatin, followed by the performance, and in-class workshops with activities that complement the themes from the assembly. Teachers also receive The Best Me: Educator Guide, which includes materials for follow-up activities that meet California State Content Standards. The program concludes with a Family Night event where students and their families learn to make healthier choices together.
