PEACE Signs
uses the power of theatre to teach students how to resolve conflicts without violence. A live performance is the centerpiece of this multi-intervention program for upper elementary school students and the adults in their lives. The show follows the lives of students facing challenging issues at home and at school, including name-calling, bullying, and domestic violence. Youthful performer/educators combine audience interaction, comedy, drama, music, and dance to promote peaceful resolutions to these conflicts.

Additional components strengthen the educational messages of the show: principal and teacher orientations, in-class workshops with the performer/educators, a teaching guide, classroom poster, CD soundtrack, and a special Family Night. Through this program, participants learn:

  • A three-step conflict resolution model
  • Empathy, respect, and how to identify feelings
  • Ways to resolve conflicts peacefully
  • How violence affects people
  • To seek help from trusted adults

PEACE Signs is designed to complement other violence prevention efforts in your school or community. The Family Night is an ideal opportunity to partner with community resources and bring together students and family members to talk about how to "increase the peace."
