Character Descriptions

Eddie is an all-star, high school athlete with a full scholarship to college for the upcoming year. He's extremely popular at school and enjoys the attention his athletic success has brought him. His first sexual experiences have put him at risk for contracting a sexually transmitted disease, including HIV. During the play he finds out he has contracted HIV, which has life-altering consequences for him, his family, and his friends.

Monica is an intelligent and confident high school senior. She's popular with other students, and they look up to her as a role model. She's strong enough to stand up for her beliefs in the face of peer pressure. She isn't ready to have sex, and she feels secure with her decision.

Ty is Eddie’s best friend. He's also a high school athlete, but doesn't plan to pursue sports in college. He likes to be well-informed and shares his knowledge with his friends. He's also decided that he isn't ready to have sex.

Denise is one of Monica’s best friends. She is outspoken, self-assured, and a little dramatic. She likes to be prepared for anything, but doesn’t always take the time to make sure she has the correct information before taking action.

Kelly is also one of Monica’s best friends. She doesn’t have the same self-confidence that Monica and Denise have, and she doesn’t always think through the consequences of her actions. She had a relationship with an older man, which put her at risk for contracting HIV and becoming pregnant.
