InnovateAt the Garfield Center, the combination of people, place, technology and process creates a unique environment. Employing hands-on and experiential activities that engage clinicians and members in a safe, simulated clinical space makes the Garfield Center an innovative place. PeopleDiverse teams of engineers, architects, technologists, care providers and members come together to innovate at the Garfield Center. These collaborative experts design for our members and care providers, the people who actually are involved and/or are receivers of health care services and experiences.
PlaceThe Garfield Center’s four innovation zones support a range of innovation activities in a safe, risk-free environment. The open prototyping zones allow teams to easily test ideas that need to rapidly evolve using flexible materials that can be quickly moved. The extensive hospital and clinic zones integrate space, technology and workflow. Finally, the home zone provides a window to Kaiser Permanente’s future, where health and wellness are delivered to our members outside traditional facilities. ProcessPhysical activities such as enactments or role playing allow people to see and experience new ideas, often in three dimensions. Rapid cycle testing allows designers to “fail early and often” to get to solutions that work. In this process, designers create an learning environment where all ideas are valued and innovation can thrive.
