Patricia E. Casey, MSN, RN, is the director of Chronic Conditions Management for Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic States Region (Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC). She and her team are responsible for developing tools and resources for members with specific chronic conditions and for health care teams that care for these members. She first joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998 as director of the Regional Cardiovascular Program. In this role, she helped to develop the hypertension program that was awarded the 2005 James A. Vohs Award for Quality.
Prior to Kaiser Permanente, Patricia spent most of her nursing career in acute care hospitals in the greater Washington, DC, area as a cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist and nursing educator. In these roles, she developed and implemented a hospital-wide emergency response and quality review program that led to improved care and reduced deaths. She also co-authored a quality improvement program that was implemented throughout the hospital.
Patricia has lectured throughout the United States on cardiovascular nursing topics, such as dysrhythmias, cardiac drugs, managing cardiac arrests, heart failure, and hypertension. She earned her undergraduate nursing degree from the University of Vermont and her master’s degree in cardiovascular nursing and adult education from The Catholic University of America.
