Jamie Ferguson

Vice President, Health Information Technology Strategy and Policy Fellow, Institute for Health Policy

Jamie Ferguson is vice president of health information technology strategy and policy for Kaiser Permanente and a fellow at the Kaiser Permanente Institute for Health Policy. He is responsible for health IT informatics standards, developing Kaiser Permanente’s health IT priorities and policies, and government and industry relations for IT. Previously, Jamie was responsible for information strategy and managed the data systems for Kaiser Permanente’s clinical and administrative operations.

Jamie serves on and supports a number of national and international health IT organizations, including committees of Health Level Seven International (HL7), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the World Economic Forum. He serves on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Information Technology Standards Committee, where he is chair of its Clinical Operations Workgroup and chair of its Vocabulary Subcommittee.    

Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, Jamie was a research investigator in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University School of Medicine, studying renal and hepatic protein structures and pathways. He was employed as an economist in the Federal Reserve System under Chairman Paul Volcker; he was chief information officer of the finance and treasury division at Bank of America; and he had his own business as an independent consultant. Jamie received a BS in molecular biophysics and biochemistry with departmental honors from Yale, and studied both computer science and economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
