Phil Madvig, MD

Philip Madvig, MD, is an associate executive director for The Permanente Medical Group in our Northern California Region. In this role, he is accountable for quality improvement, disease and population management, accreditation, and research. In addition, Phil partners with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan/Hospital senior leadership to oversee hospital operations.

Phil joined The Permanente Medical Group in 1983 as an internist at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital in San Francisco, California. He was appointed physician-in-chief at the medical center in 1988, and in 1997 moved into his current regionwide position.

Phil earned his AB in biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his MS in nutritional sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. He attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of California, Los Angeles. He completed his internship and residency at the Kaiser Medical Center in San Francisco, followed by fellowships in endocrinology and geriatrics at Stanford University Medical Center.
