Ruth Shaber, MD

Ruth Shaber, MD, is the medical director of the Center for Healthcare Delivery at the Kaiser Permanente (KP) Care Management Institute (CMI). CMI works with KP’s regional and national partners to apply the best evidence and successful approaches to clinical performance. CMI’s specific areas of focus include Palliative Care, Transitions in Care, and Cardiovascular Disease Prevention.

Ruth started her KP career as a staff physician at the South San Francisco Medical Center in 1990. From 1997 to 2003, she served as chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the South San Francisco Medical Center. In 1999 and 2000, she served as chairman for The Permanente Medical Group’s Obstetrics and Gynecology chiefs, and from 2001 to 2007 she served as the director of Women’s Health for the Northern California division of Kaiser Permanente. She was the founder and directed the Women’s Health Research Institute in Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Region from 2003 to 2008.  

Ruth received her BA from Yale University and her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She served her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of California in San Francisco.
