Paul Wallace, MD, wears several hats with The Permanente Federation. He is medical director for our Health and Productivity Management Programs and senior advisor for the Care Management Institute (CMI) and Avivia (formerly KP Healthy Solutions), the KP disease management company established in 2005. In this role, he leads work to extend Kaiser Permanente’s experience with population-based care to further develop and integrate wellness, health maintenance, and productivity enhancement interventions. He has also represented the Federation and Medical Groups in re-examining KP's Medicaid strategy.

Paul participates on the KP Interregional New Technology Committee and has been a member of the Medical Advisory Panel for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Technology Evaluation Center, the Medical Coverage Advisory Committee for CMS, and the National Advisory Council for the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). He is a member of the Institute for Medicine Board for Public Health and Population Care, a member of the Committee for Performance Measurement at the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a board member for the Disease Management Association of America, and chairs the Board for the Washington DC-based Center for Information Therapy. He previously worked for our Northwest Region, where he directed the Clinical Practice Guidelines Program and Chronic Care Management programs from 1994 to 2000. Between 2000 and 2005, he was director of our Care Management Institute.

Paul combines past experiences in academic medicine and clinical medical oncology and hematology practice with work in quality improvement, especially in the areas of guideline development, performance measurement, and evaluation of emerging medical technologies. Since 1997, his full-time focus has been administrative and development endeavors in the application of evidence-based medicine within disease management, measurement of clinical performance, technology assessment, and use of the electronic medical record.
