Harold (Hal) F. Wolf, III

  Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
The Permanente Federation



Hal Wolf brings multi-industry expertise to his role as senior vice president and chief operating officer of The Permanente Federation, which represents the national interests of Kaiser Permanente’s eight Permanente Medical Groups. He is responsible for the development and implementation of the Federation's strategic priorities based upon the direction of the Federation Executive Committee and Dr. Jack Cochran, executive director. Additionally, he acts as a key liaison between Kaiser Permanente Information Technology and the Federation in the development of technical strategies that impact the Permanente Medical Groups.  

Prior to joining the Federation in January 2008, Hal served as Health Plan regional information officer and then as vice president of Medical Group Operations in the Colorado Region, where he was instrumental in developing and implementing Value Metrics, the medical group's balanced scorecard of management and market comparison information. He also led the creation of a business support infrastructure for physician leaders in the field, as well as the development of applications essential to enhanced care delivery.

Hal joined the Colorado Region in late 2003 as regional information officer for Kaiser Permanente. During his tenure, he transformed the IT organization into an enabling partner of both the Colorado Medical Group Practice and Health Plan Leadership Team. 

Previously, Hal served as chief information officer of E-Business and Corporate Systems at Qwest Communications/USWest. He has worked internationally in the deployment of Interactive Television Services in Operational, Content, and Business Development roles. A successful veteran of the cable TV industry, Hal held business management positions with MTV Networks and Time Warner Communications. He holds degrees from Wake Forest University and North Carolina State University.
