What is Parathyroidectomy?
Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure designed to remove an abnormally functioning parathyroid gland. The procedure is performed by making a small incision in the neck of 3 cm or less in order to remove the parathyroid gland. It generally takes less than one hour to perform.
What are the advantages of Parathyroidectomy?
The advantages include less scarring, less blood loss, minimal pain and significantly shorter recovery time than the traditional surgery.

Who should have it - includes almost all patients with an identified abnormal parathyroid gland.
What preparations will be needed prior to surgery?
Preparations prior to surgery includes seeing our top notch endocrinologists prior to surgery, as well as possibly seeing our primary care doctors to make sure there are no medical conditions that may cause a problem with the surgery. A preop appt which includes history, physical exam, anesthesia evaluation. Patients shouldn't eat or drink after midnight on the night before surgery.

Is there a hospital stay after surgery?
Hospital Stay - Most are done as an outpatient.
What kind of a recovery can be expected?
Recovery - Most patients are back to their normal routine one to two days later.
