For research that established the safety of cold-adapted trivalent intranasal influenza virus vaccine (CAIV) in children over three years of age and adolescents. Based on the results, the Food and Drug Administration recommended the nasal flu vaccine be used only in children five years of age and, older and called for further studies in children under five.
