Hospital Medicine
Fresno

Medicine combines two things Dr. Albert Wilburn loves: science and working with people. “Anyone can learn the science of medicine. The art is the interpersonal relationship with the patient,” he said.

As a Hospital Medicine Specialist in Fresno, Dr. Wilburn is widely admired for his calm confidence and reassuring manner. He recalls warmly how serving as captain of the Stanford Football Team profoundly affected his approach to medicine – “You don’t have to be loud to lead.”

Dr. Wilburn adds that the most rewarding part of his job is taking care of hospitalized patients. In fact, it’s his specialty. As a hospitalist, he spends the greater part of his medical day in the hallways and patient rooms at the hospital. He sees dozens of patients and their families, some of them several times each day.

“For any patient who has to spend time in a hospital, Dr. Wilburn is a dream come true,” said Linda Sims, whose mother was his patient. “He walks on water.” Sims was so moved by Dr. Wilburn’s ability to bring her mother and family comfort in a difficult and stressful situation, she nominated Dr. Wilburn for Toastmaster International’s Communication and

Leadership Award – and he won. “Taking care of hospitalized patients is challenging. I’ve always thought Kaiser was the best HMO – the best plan with the best approach to patients,” he said. ”This is my ideal job.”
