Dr. Allan Bernstein, Chief of Neurology at Santa Rosa, and his staff work with multiple departments, treating both adults and children. They are conducting research involving Alzheimer’s disease, stroke and migraine headaches. “When our members are in research studies, they receive even more attention than usual, because we need very detailed data on them. We have developed a number of disease and pain management programs that have grown out of our research projects. These models are then exported to benefit more people.”
Dr. Bernstein’s mind never seems to rest. He recently devised an innovation that allows him to see the results of an EEG test in hours instead of days, and the readout can be viewed on the computer. From there, he explained, it can be saved on a compact disk for storage, e-mailed to a colleague and stored on the hospital’s mainframe computer. “It’s a vast improvement over having these readouts on paper.”
Dr. Bernstein credits his dedicated team for much of his success. “I’ve got a fantastic team to work with, all this work is possible because of them.”
