Marilyn J. Kawamura is president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States, Inc. As president, Kawamura is responsible for creating and implementing strategies and initiatives to ensure that Kaiser Permanente continues to be a leader in providing health care to the people of the Mid-Atlantic States.

Kawamura is a seasoned health care professional both as a clinician and as an executive. She began her service with Kaiser Permanente in 1987. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States in 2000, she served as senior vice president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and was responsible for strategy and people for the Kaiser Permanente Regions Outside of California, which includes six regions in nine states and Washington, D.C.

Prior to that, she had served as president of the Kaiser Permanente Northeast Region, vice president of Kaiser Permanente’s New York market, vice president of strategic planning in the Northeast Region, and vice president of human resources in the Southeast Region.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Kawamura held positions as assistant chief operating officer for Health America in Atlanta, Georgia, and director of urgent care services for Cigna in Arizona.

She has attended the Kaiser Permanente Executive Program at Stanford University and the Executive Management Program at Emory University. Kawamura, a registered nurse, studied nursing at Methodist Hospital and later received her degree from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
