Green Parenting Brochure Helps Parents Protect Children from Harmful Chemicals, Contaminants
October 30, 2009
Kaiser Permanente’s environmental stewardship organization has produced a "Green Parenting" brochure to help parents protect their children from environmental contaminants and chemicals.
From birth, children breathe more air, drink more water and eat more food per pound of body weight than adults. Since they’re taking in more of everything, there’s more potential for exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.
What’s more, systems that detoxify industrial chemicals are not yet fully developed in babies and children. For example, while an adult will absorb 10 percent of ingested lead, a toddler absorbs 50 percent.
The good news is there are steps you can take to reduce the impact of potentially harmful chemicals on children. In this new brochure, Kaiser Permanente offers tips for parents on how to green their nursery and household.
A printable, downloadable version of the brochure also is available.
