Robert Pearl, MD, Interviewed on KQED’s ‘Health Dialogues’ Program About Health Care Reform

Robert Pearl, MD, executive director and CEO of The Permanente Medical Group, was among the prominent voices in the health care reform discussion featured in a National Public Radio feature that aired Thursday.

The feature, "Health Dialogues," aired on KQED 88.5 FM’s popular segment "The California Report." Host Scott Shafer asked health care providers, patient advocates, employers, insurers and others across the state about how they would address the issue. KQED is an NPR affiliate station based in San Francisco.

Dr. Pearl was chosen for the segment’s extended interview. In the interview, Dr. Pearl discussed the critical role electronic medical records and advanced information technology play in delivering 21st century health care. As part of that discussion, he provided insight into how Kaiser Permanente’s comprehensive electronic medical record — Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect® — improves the quality of care for patients, and how it also helps members access and manage their care in a manner that is convenient for them.

Dr. Pearl leads The Permanente Medical Group, whose 7,000 physicians provide care for 3.3 million Kaiser Permanente members in Northern California.

Shafer also interviewed officials from the UCLA School of Public Health, the Alameda County (Calif.) Public Health Department, the Pacific Research Institute, and the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
