New Blog — ‘Dispatches From...’ Shares Kaiser Permanente Caregivers’ Stories From Around the World
Kaiser Permanente has launched “Dispatches From...”, a blog on the Web that will share Kaiser Permanente caregivers' experiences as they donate their time and expertise to relief and charitable care organizations worldwide.
“Dispatches From...”, at http://kpdispatchesfrom.wordpress.com, was launched to expand upon Kaiser Permanente’s successful and award-winning “Dispatches From Haiti”; blog, which chronicled the work of several Kaiser Permanente caregivers following the earthquake that devastated Haiti in January 2010. That blog featured 28 posts from 11 different caregivers, among them surgeons, emergency room physicians, a nurse and a psychologist. The blog has won two awards from PR News as the best nonprofit and Corporate Social Responsibility blog of the year.
Soon after the blog was launched, however, it became clear that many of Kaiser Permanente’s doctors, nurses, and other caregivers had stories to share from their work with relief agencies worldwide — and not just following catastrophes.
The new blog will collect and share those stories and thus show another example of how Kaiser Permanente extends our care and support into communities beyond our doors.
The blog’s first post shares news from Jack Cochran, MD, FACS, executive director of The Permanente Federation, who recently completed a two-week mission in Tanzania. Dr. Cochran has traveled to Africa for close to a quarter-century to provide much-needed reconstructive surgeries for people disfigured by birth defects or injuries.
If you’re a Kaiser Permanente physician or employee and have an idea for this blog, please let us know.
