Kaiser Permanente Furthered its Commitment to Total Health in 2011
At Kaiser Permanente our strategy is total health, which means everyone should have access to the highest quality care when they need it. But it also means that we deserve to live healthy lives in our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods and our communities.
In 2011, Kaiser Permanente responded on a number of fronts to address the needs of our communities and the commitment to total health. In this video, Raymond Baxter, PhD, senior vice president, Community Benefit, Health Policy and Research at Kaiser Permanente outlines a number of last year’s efforts, which include:
- Introducing community health initiatives in 40 communities across the United States to help combat barriers that deny people access to healthy foods and their ability to participate in physical activities.
- Unveiling Every Body Walk!, a national campaign aimed at getting Americans moving.
- Major developments through its environmental stewardship program, including measuring and making a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the purchase of locally produced and pesticide-free foods in all Kaiser Permanente facilities.
- Adopting a Sustainability Scorecard, which ensures that all of the organization’s suppliers must divulge if their products contain any chemicals of concern.
- Celebrated 25 years of bringing health education to communities through music, comedy and drama with the Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre Program.
- Invested $50 million in safety-net clinics, which serve on the front lines of health care for the uninsured and underserved.
- Expanded investments to school-based health centers and oral-health providers.
- Furthered the organization’s goals of diversity, health equity and the elimination of health and health care disparities.
