Kaiser Permanente Leader Jay Crosson, MD, Named Vice Chair of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission

Jay Crosson, MD
Francis J. (Jay) Crosson, MD, of Kaiser Permanente has been named the next vice chairman of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, the federal panel that advises the U.S. Congress on Medicare issues. Dr. Crosson is the first physician named to the role of vice-chair since MedPAC was established in 1997.
Dr. Crosson has served as a MedPAC member since 2004 and will complete his final term in 2010.
“I am pleased to take on this leadership role at such a critical time for Medicare and the American health care system,” Dr. Crosson said. “Health care reform and Medicare are inextricably linked. We have an unprecedented chance to improve health care quality and cost for today’s and tomorrow’s Medicare beneficiaries.”
Dr. Crosson will serve with Glenn Hackbarth, MedPAC chair, and succeeds former MedPAC vice-chairs Robert Reischauer (former Congressional Budget Office director and Urban Institute president) and Jack Ebeler (staff to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee and former executive director of the Association of Community Health Plans.
Dr. Crosson has been a Kaiser Permanente physician for more than 31 years, currently serving as associate executive director of The Permanente Medical Group and senior fellow of the Kaiser Permanente Institute for Health Policy. He was the founding executive director of The Permanente Federation — a position he held for 10 years.
