Kaiser Permanente Plans Fredericksburg Expansion

January 2009 opening set

ROCKVILLE, Md. – Kaiser Permanente members in the Fredericksburg, Va.,* area will have access to a new facility closer to home in 2009. On Jan. 5, Kaiser Permanente's newest medical center officially opens.

"For our nearly 7,000 members in the Fredericksburg area, the new center means a more accessible setting for our services," says Marilyn Kawamura, president of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Mid-Atlantic States Region. "The new facility is also a way for us to become more involved in the community, providing quality and affordable care through our integrated health care delivery model and playing a role in improving the overall health of the area."

The center will offer adult primary care, OB/GYN, and pediatric primary care, as well as pharmacy and laboratory services. Other services will be provided through contracted providers in the Fredericksburg community.

Kaiser Permanente has leased a new building on the campus of Mary Washington Hospital, located at 1201 Hospital Drive, to house the new center.

"Everything – doctors, pharmacy, and lab – all under one roof makes accessing medical services easier and more convenient," explains Bernadette Loftus, MD, The Permanente Medical Group associate executive director for The Mid-Atlantic States. "Staying healthy and getting well are made simpler through our seamless model of care and our advanced technology."

Technology such as My Health Manager allows members to secure personal health information from their personal computers at home or work.

"The Kaiser Permanente technology allows members to schedule appointments, request medication refills, view most lab results, and contact the health care team – securely and conveniently online," Loftus says.

Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States Region provides and coordinates complete health care services for almost 500,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. With local headquarters in Rockville, Md., Kaiser Permanente currently has 29 medical centers, including facilities in Woodbridge and Manassas. The opening of the Fredericksburg Medical Center will bring the total to 30.
