Philip A. Marineau has served on the boards of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Health Plan, Inc. since April 2004. He serves as chair of the Compensation Committee and also is a member of the Quality and Health Improvement Committee, the Finance Committee and the Executive Committee. Currently, he is a partner in LNK Partners, a middle market private equity firm which focuses on consumer and retail businesses. He is involved in searching for potential investments as well as providing advice and counsel to companies in LNK’s portfolio.

Marineau has an extensive record of success in consumer brand marketing and executive leadership. He retired in November 2006 as president and chief executive officer of Levi Strauss & Co., a leading global apparel company with $4.1 billion in sales in more than 110 countries. Marineau led Levi Strauss through a successful business turnaround. He joined the company in September 1999 and is credited with restoring its competitiveness across all dimensions of the business. During his tenure as CEO, shareholder value increased by over 200 percent.

Prior to joining Levi Strauss, Marineau was president and chief executive officer of Pepsi-Cola North America from 1997 to 1999. Under his leadership, Pepsi outgrew Coke in North America for the first time in years and the Pepsi Bottling Group was spun off into an independent public company. From 1996 to 1997, Marineau was president and chief operating officer of Dean Foods Co., where he oversaw a substantial increase in both sales and earnings and led the successful repositioning of milk as a beverage, introducing the Chug packaging which revolutionized the dairy business.

Prior to Dean Foods, Marineau was a 23-year veteran of the Quaker Oats Co., where he held progressively responsible positions, including president and chief operating officer from 1993 to 1996. At Quaker, he was responsible for building Gatorade into a multi-billion dollar global brand. As COO, he streamlined Quaker’s go-to-market practices, making it a recognized leader in efficient consumer response within the packaged goods industry.

Marineau has been named to the Institute of Medicine (part of the National Academies) Committee, which has been tasked with the goal of making comprehensive recommendations on accelerating the fight against obesity in the United States. He also serves as chairman of the board of Shutterfly, Inc. and as a board member of the Meredith Corp. (Audit Committee Chair), the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and Georgetown University (Advancement and Strategic Development Committee Chair).

He received a master’s of business administration from Northwestern University in 1970 and a bachelor of arts degree in history from Georgetown University in 1968. He was a U.S. Army officer from 1970 to 1972 and served in Vietnam.
