Kaiser Permanente won two 2010 Business Achievement Awards in the “Project Merit Award” category from two publications. The Environmental Business Journal recognized the organization for the development of its Sustainability Scorecard for the health care industry. The Climate Change Business Journal honored Kaiser Permanente for its solar power initiative, one of the largest sustainable energy programs in U.S. health care that calls for photovoltaic arrays at 15 buildings in 2011.
GREEN ENERGY UPDATES
“We’re proud to be recognized for our commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Kathy Gerwig, vice president, Workplace Safety, and environmental stewardship officer. “As one of the largest health care providers, we recognize the connection between environmental health and individual health, and that total health must extend beyond the doctor’s office.”
Kaiser Permanente has a long history of energy conservation and environmental stewardship. Green building and procurement are part of the organization’s larger, industry-leading sustainability work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce the use of harmful chemicals and promote sustainable food choices.
Each year, Environmental Business Journal and Climate Change Business Journal recognize organizations for their contributions to sustainability and the environmental industry. The Business Achievement Awards were presented at the Environmental Industry Summit IX on March 9 in San Diego, Calif.
