Two events this Memorial Day weekend highlight Kaiser Permanente’s contributions to the history of the San Francisco Bay Area. The landmark Golden Gate Bridge celebrates its 75th anniversary, and the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park in Richmond (Calif.) hosts the grand opening of its long-awaited Visitor Education Center.
Kaiser Permanente is a sponsor of “Bridging Us All,” a free community event on Sunday, May 27 that honors the Golden Gate Bridge. For details of the festival: http://goldengatebridge75.org.
Meanwhile, the new Rosie the Riveter Home Front Center, housed in a refurbished former Ford Company oil house, offers stories of the Kaiser shipyards, including the health care program that is now Kaiser Permanente. Festivities include opportunities to walk and bicycle in a ranger-guided parade along the San Francisco Bay Trail and to view the Red Oak Victory, a Kaiser-built warship that has been restored as a museum.
