According to the 2010 CareerBliss data, Kaiser Permanente ranked 26 in their ‘50 Happiest Companies in America — 2011’ list. CareerBliss features reviews by employees on their employer and specific job situation. The top companies scored highest on a scale of 1 to 5 based on the levels of bliss in the following categories: growth opportunity, compensation, benefits, work-life balance, career advancement, senior management, job security and whether the employee would recommend the company to others.
12/6/10 Watch now! Kaiser Permanente Northern California Physician Honored for Heart Surgery Research with Morris F. Collen Research Award
Marketa Dolnik, MD was recognized for her work researching the impact of the widely-used material hetastarch in bypass surgery, as published in The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Her research resulted in the suspension of use of hetastarch in Northern California Kaiser Permanente facilities. The Morris F. Collen Research Award recognizes the efforts of The Permanente Medical Group physicians who make significant contributions to scientific literature, the knowledge of their colleagues, and the health and welfare of Kaiser Permanente members and our communities.
12/1/10 16 Kaiser Permanente Hospitals Dominate ‘Leapfrog Top Hospitals’ of 2010
Sixteen Kaiser Permanente hospitals — 10 in Northern California and six in Southern California — were named 2010 Leapfrog Top Hospitals, an honor that rewards medical centers for their outstanding success is such areas as infection rates, safety practices, mortality rates for common procedures and measures of efficiency.
12/1/10 Kaiser Permanente Communicators Honored by PR News
PR News recognized several members of Kaiser Permanente’s public relations team at the 2010 PR People Awards. Senior Vice President Diane Gage Lofgren was inducted into the PR News Hall of Fame, and national media and public relations consultant Laura Dunn was selected as one of “15-to-Watch” in the industry. Holly Potter, vice president of public relations, was a finalist for Digital Communications Leader of the Year, and Patrice Smith, director of stakeholder management, was a finalist for Nonprofit PR Professional of the Year. More than 100 PR professionals celebrated the winners at a ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California region was awarded 17 California Fit Business Awards of the 82 handed out to businesses around the state by the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness earlier this month.
11/26/10 Unique Program Gets Nod for Cultural Competency
A program conceived, designed and implemented by Filipino Americans to reduce health disparities, improve service and augment care at Kaiser Permanente has received the organization’s national recognition for linguistic and cultural competency with the 2010 Robert Erickson Award.
11/18/10 Movers & Shakers: Hispanic Chamber Honors Local Merchants
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Marin will honor three Marin County business people at its annual awards ceremony. Included among the honorees is Berta Bejarano, diversity program manager for Kaiser Permanente San Rafael. Bejarano will receive the Hispanic Business Professional of the Year award for her work overseeing Kaiser Permanente's language services and other programs.
11/3/10 Patricia Arzuaga of Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic States Named Maryland’s Civil Rights Champion
Patricia Arzuaga, senior counsel with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. has been named Civil Rights Champion for 2010 by the Maryland Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs. She accepted her award from Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley before an audience of 500 at the annual luncheon of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Hispanic Business Conference on Sept. 7.
10/22/10 Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s Quality Care Receives NCQA’s Highest Ranking for California Medicare Plans
Kaiser Permanente Southern California’s Medicare Plan is ranked No. 5 in the nation for member satisfaction, treatment, prevention and access, according to annual rankings of nearly 300 Medicare programs by the National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA’s “Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2010–11 — Medicare” is available at www.ncqa.org/rankings.
10/21/10 Kaiser Permanente Named Top Medicare and Medicaid Plan in Hawaii
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has the highest-rated Medicare and Medicaid plan in the state, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) 2010–11 Health Insurance Plan Rankings — Medicare/Medicaid. Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s commercial plan received top Hawaii ranking, earlier this year. All three plans are also accredited with NCQA’s highest quality rating.
10/21/10 Kaiser Permanente Northwest Named Top Medical Plan in Oregon and Washington
Kaiser Permanente’s Medicare Advantage is the highest-rated private health insurance plan in both Oregon and Washington based on quality and member satisfaction, according to a new ranking by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The NCQA rates Kaiser Permanente Northwest’s Medicare Advantage plan as the fourth best in the country.

10/21/10 Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Leads the Nation in Breast Cancer Screening
Kaiser Permanente of Georgia leads the nation in mammography screenings, according to the National Committee on Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Quality Compass® report for 2010. The data provided by the private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality, found that among all reporting health plans across the nation, Kaiser Permanente of Georgia has the highest breast cancer screening rate for eligible women age 42 to 69.
10/13/10 Kaiser Permanente’s ALL/PHASE Initiative Wins 2010 Care Continuum Alliance Quality Impact Award for Greatest Impact on Health
The Care Continuum Alliance honored Kaiser Permanente’s ALL/PHASE initiative with the Quality Impact Award for the “Greatest Impact on Health” at The Forum 10 conference Oct. 13 in Washington, D.C. The ALL/PHASE protocol, which utilizes low-cost and generic medications and clinical interventions to reduce heart attacks, has been successfully implemented in Kaiser Permanente communities, including those served by safety net organizations.
10/11/10 ECRI Institute Names Kaiser Permanente Winner of 5th Annual Health Devices Achievement Award
ECRI Institute has named Kaiser Permanente the winner of the 5th Annual Health Devices Achievement Award. This award recognizes two groundbreaking initiatives, the Total Joint Replacement Registry and Cardiac Device Registry. These are comprehensive databases covering almost 150,000 joint-replacement and cardiac implants from regions across the United States.

10/1/10 Sixteen Kaiser Permanente Colorado Physicians Honored as 5280 Magazine Top Docs
Every year Denver’s 5280 Magazine surveys all registered physicians in the metro area and asks them to select fellow doctors they believe are “top” in their specialty. The results are in, and this year, 16 Kaiser Permanente Colorado physicians received the top honor.
9/29/10 J.D. Power and Associates Once Again Ranks Kaiser Permanente Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Mail-Order Pharmacies
Kaiser Permanente Colorado received two top honors in the Denver Business Journal’s Champions in Health Care awards. The awards, which recognize outstanding health care professionals in the community, were given at an event on Sept. 23, 2010.

9/22/10 Southern California Kaiser Permanente Physicians Win Top Performer Awards from IHA
Physicians from the Southern California Permanente Medical Group have been named top performers by the non-profit Integrated Healthcare Association in its annual statewide pay for performance rankings, referred to as “P4P.” These are the physicians who care for Kaiser Permanente members in all 13 areas they serve in Southern California.

Kaiser Permanente private (commercial) health plans improved in seven of its eight regions, led by a 9th place ranking for Colorado Region, according to annual rankings by the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

Kaiser Permanente was selected as the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s corporate honoree for the 15th Annual Eddy Awards. The award celebrates individuals and organizations that contribute to positive economic development in the region. Kaiser Permanente, which has medical centers in the San Fernando Valley, was recognized as Los Angeles County’s largest employer and as a leading health care provider.

11 Kaiser Permanente Northern and Southern California Medical Centers and 1 Kaiser Permanente Hawaii hospital have received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Stroke Performance Achievement Awards. The award recognizes Kaiser Permanente’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

6/21/10 Kaiser Permanente Recognized By Three Publications As A “Best Place to Work”
Kaiser Permanente, one of the country’s largest not-for-profit health plans, has been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” by three publications. In the first half of 2010, the organization was ranked No. 1 by Diversity MBA Magazine for diverse managers, and No. 2 in the San Francisco Business Times’ list of “Best Places to Work.” This week, the organization was ranked in the top third of Computerworld magazine’s top 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology.
6/7/10 Kaiser Permanente Named the First Health and Hospital System to Earn a Perfect Rating on the Human Rights Campaign Healthcare Equality Index
Kaiser Permanente is the first health and hospital system to earn a perfect 100 percent rating on the Healthcare Equality Index. The HEI is an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
6/2/10 Kaiser Permanente Honored for Health Information Technology Innovation with CIO 100 Award
Kaiser Permanente was recognized by IDG’s CIO magazine with a CIO 100 Award for using information technology in innovative ways that provide value. The award was specifically in honor of Kaiser Permanente’s first-of-its-kind Mobile Health Vehicle.
5/27/10 David Sobel, MD, Named 2010 Honorary Fellow of the Society for Public Health Information
Dr. Sobel is director of patient education and health promotion for The Permanente Medical Group and Kaiser Permanente’s operations in Northern California. The SOPHE honorary fellow award is the highest honor bestowed on a non-member who has made signficant and lasting contributions to health and health education. Dr. Sobel also led the national initiative on patient-centered care for Kaiser Permanente’s Care Management Institute.

The National Park Service presented its Home Front Award to Kaiser Permanente’s Heritage Resources Director Tom Debley Monday as part of the city’s 2010 Historic Preservation Awards.

The Association of Diversity Councils recently honored Kaiser Permanente’s National Diversity Council, ranking it third among the top 25 in the nation during the 11th Annual Summit on Leading Diversity Conference in Atlanta. The Diversity Council Honors Award recognizes the outstanding contributions and achievements of councils that lead diversity processes in their organizations and have demonstrated results in their workforce, workplace, and marketplace. 5/17/10 Kaiser Permanente Wins Awards for Commitment to Environmental Health
Kaiser Permanente facilities and regions across the country received 18 awards in recognition of efforts to reduce waste and prevent pollution. Kaiser Permanente received the awards Wed., May 12 from Practice Greenhealth at CleanMed 2010 a global conference for environmental leaders in health care.

Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research has received the 2010 “Psychologically Healthy Workplace” award from the Oregon Psychological Association. OPA is the professional organization for Oregon psychologists and gives awards to businesses or organizations that excel in five areas: employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety and employee recognition.
5/7/10 Kaiser Permanente Southern California Delivers 100% Support for “SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands” Initiative
The WHO honored Permanente’s operations in Southern California achieved 100 percent registration in the international ‘Save Lives: Clean Your Hands’ initiative. That entailed having the entire region adopt WHO’s “My 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” program. WHO held an event in Santa Barbara, Calif., on May 5 to commend the organization for its work.
5/7/10 Kaiser Permanente Southern California Physicians Receive National Recognition for Excellence in Heart/Stroke Care
Leading into May as National Stroke Awareness Month, Kaiser Permanente announced May 7 that the overwhelming majority of California physicians receiving national recognition for their outstanding treatment of patients who have had a stroke or who have a cardiovascular disease belong to the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, the physician organization that serves Kaiser Permanente members.
5/4/10 National Group Applauds Kaiser Permanente Northern California’s Interpreter Services
Kaiser Permanente Northern California was recognized with the Language Access Champion Award for 2010 by the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC). The purpose of the award is to honor a person, program, or organization that has promoted language access in health care and therefore improved the lives of all people. Kaiser Permanente Northern California was one of the first to hire professional health care interpreters as staff in its medical centers. In addition, Kaiser Permanente Northern California trains and assesses bilingual employees before allowing them to interpret. Today, more than 60 staff members regionwide provide interpreter services and more than 500 nurses and 3,500 other employees in Northern California are qualified to communicate to members in eight languages. The award also recognizes Kaiser Permanente for using technology to increase access to bilingual staff. Three locations have implemented remote video for interpreting, which ensures equal access to Sign Language and spoken language services.
4/28/10 Kaiser Permanente Receives ‘B-Smart Program Innovation Award’
The Center for Business Intelligence named Kaiser Permanente the winner of its of its ‘B-Smart Program Innovation Award’ as part of the annual Strategic Patient Adherence Awards during its two-day conference about patient compliance with their drug regiments. Kaiser Permanente won in part for a program that allows physicians and clinicians to identify and target non-adherent patients for specific medicatino adherence interventions. The program was rolled out in Southern California and had a significant impact in adherence rates in the patients who were part of the program.

Kaiser Permanente announced April 27 it received the 2010 Outstanding Community Partner award from EarthShare of Georgia for its contributions to the environmental organization through the years.
4/22/10 Kaiser Permanente Ranks No. 4 on DiversityInc’s Top 10 Companies for Executive Women®
Up from No. 7 in 2009, Kaiser Permanente was ranked No. 4 on the 2010 DiversityInc Top 10 Companies for Executive Women® list. DiversityInc. looks specifically at the progress women are making in the upper and middle ranks of corporate America. Some measuring factors include the ratio of women in the work force to women in management, ratio of women in management to management promotions going to women, racial/ethnic/gender demographics of the top 10 percent highest-paid employees, and retention of women in management among others.
4/16/10 Kaiser Permanente Wins Clean Air Award for Environmental Leadership Efforts
Breathe California has recognized Kaiser Permanente for its efforts to reduce global warming and air pollution. Kaiser Permanente was named as the Clean Air Award recipient in the leadership category at Breathe California’s 20th annual ceremony today in San Francisco.
4/9/10 Kaiser Permanente Ranked No. 1 in Diversity Leadership for Second Consecutive Year
Kaiser Permanente’s tradition of fostering diversity, inclusion, innovation and advocacy has again been recognized by Diversity MBA Magazine. For the second year in a row, the health care organization was ranked No. 1 in the publication’s fifth annual “50 Out Front for Diversity Leadership: Best Places for Diverse Managers to Work.”
4/8/10 Kaiser Permanente Ranks No. 1 on DiversityInc’s Top 10 Companies for Latinos®
For the second consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente was ranked No. 1 on the 2010 DiversityInc Top 10 Companies for Latinos® list. DiversityInc. examined several factors that create an inclusive culture, such as mentoring, employee-resource groups, diversity training and communications, and measured them against actual demographic results in the workplace and moving up the management ranks.
4/2/10 Kaiser Permanente Receives High Marks in 2010 J.D. Power and Associates Study
Kaiser Permanente announced that its members in four geographic regions rated the organization’s health plans highest in customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power and Associates 2010 U.S. Member Health Insurance Plan StudySM. The regions are California, Colorado, South Atlantic, and Mid-Atlantic (Virginia-Maryland-Washington D.C.). In a fifth region, Kaiser Permanente in the Northwest, ranked third. These five regions serve more than 8.2 million of Kaiser Permanente’s more than 8.6 million members.
Spring 2010 Issue Kaiser Permanente in ‘Top 50 Employers, Reader’s Choice 2010 Award’ in CAREERS & the disABLED Magazine
Readers of Careers & the disABLED magazine were asked to name the employers, both private and public sector, for whom they would most like to work or that they believe would provide a progressive environment for people with disabilities. Kaiser Permanente was ranked 36 out of the top 50 employers.
3/11/10 Kaiser Permanente Ranks No. 4 on DiversityInc’s Top 50 Companies for Diversity®
Kaiser Permanente was ranked No. 4 on the 2010 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list, up three spots from the previous year, for its demonstrated use of diversity best practices and results. This is the first time Kaiser Permanente has been ranked in the top 5 of this list.
3/2/10 Kaiser Permanente Honored for Electronic Health Record Implementation
The organization announced Wednesday that every Kaiser Permanente medical facility is equipped with Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, the largest private sector electronic health record in the world. Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Oakland, Richmond and Vallejo in Northern California are the most recent facilities to complete the final phase of electronic health record implementation. Kaiser Permanente made the announcement at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference, at which it received 12 more Stage 7 Awards for achieving the highest level of EHR implementation. 2/28/10 Creators of Kaiser Permanente’s ‘Emerald Cities’ Ad Win VES Award for Outstanding Visual Effects
The Visual Effects Society announced the winners of the 8th Annual Visual Effects Society Awards. The annual event recognizes outstanding visual effects in more than 20 categories of film, animation, television, commercials and video games. Animal Logic, the organization that created Kaiser Permanente’s “Emerald Cities” ad under direction of ad agency Campbell-Ewald, was honored with an award for Outstanding Matt Paintings in a Broadcast Program or Commercial.
2/18/10 Kaiser Permanente Named on Fast Company 2010 World’s Most Innovative Companies List
Kaiser Permanente has been honored in Fast Company’s annual Most Innovative Companies issue as the fifth Most Innovative Health Care Company in the World for its pioneering electronic health record that is the world’s largest civilian electronic health record, and for its health care innovation center that develops the future of health care.
2/9/10 Kaiser Permanente Receives Highest Marks on California’s Annual Clinical Quality Report Card
The California Office of the Patient Advocate released its Healthcare Quality Report Card on Tuesday. Kaiser Permanente’s operations in Southern Califronia earned eight out of eight stars in the HMO Ratings at a Glance — the first time it’s happened in the report’s nine-year history. In Northern California, Kaiser Permanente is the only health plan to earn a four-star rating for quality of care for the second consecutive year.
2/4/10 Kaiser Permanente Recognized with 2009 InfoSec Award by HITRUST
The Health Information Trust Alliance honored Kaiser Permanente with the 2009 InfoSec Award, category “Contribution to the Healthcare Industry” for its willingness to collaborate with organizations of all types for the enhancement of the protection of health information. 1/17/10 Kaiser Permanente’s ‘Kabuki’ Thrive TV Ad Wins NAMM ‘Wanna Play?’ Award
Kaiser Permanente’s “Kabuki” Thrive television ad has won a National Association of Music Merchants ‘Wanna Play?’ award. The award is given to organizations for encouraging ad viewers to play or create music. The award was presented to Campbell-Ewald, a Warren, Mich.-based advertising agency that created the multi-year Thrive campaign in partnership with Kaiser Permanente. Campbell-Ewald has worked with Kaiser Permanente since the rollout of the first Thrive ads in 2004. The ‘Wanna Play?’ Awards are an extension of NAMM’s ‘Wanna Play?’ campaign, a public awareness initiative designed to inspire people of all ages to become active music makers.
