Kaiser Permanente Executive, Arthur M. Southam, MD, Inducted into UCLA School of Public Health Alumni Hall of Fame
The UCLA School of Public Health announced that it has inducted Arthur M. Southam, MD, executive vice president, Health Plan Operations, for Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., into its 2011 Alumni Hall of Fame. Dr. Southam, who received his MD degree and a master’s degree in public health from UCLA, has an extensive career in the health care industry. At Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Southam has national responsibility for Health Plan marketing, sales, product development and administrative services that support membership growth and customer service.
The UCLA School of Public Health Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments of outstanding UCLA alumni who make substantial and distinctive contributions to the field of public health. The UCLA School of Public Health is honoring Dr. Southam, along with five other influential alumni, who have dedicated their lives to improving the health of their communities.
Dr. Southam serves on the Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare, National Commission on Prevention Priorities, and was a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on the Quality of Health Care in America. As part of the committee, he contributed to the widely cited publications, To Err is Human, regarding patient safety and Crossing the Quality Chasm, which outlines principles and priorities for improvements in the quality of American health care.
