Phil Fasano Receives Health Information Technology Man of the Year Honor
Phil Fasano, Kaiser Permanente executive vice president and chief information officer, recently was honored as a Health Information Technology Man of the Year as part of Healthcare IT News’ second annual Health IT Men and Women Awards. Fasano received an honorable mention in the “Enhancing Patient Care Through Health IT” category.
More than 2,000 Healthcare IT News readers voted for nominees in three categories: “Enhancing Patient Care Through Health IT,” “Shapers and Influencers” and “Up and Coming.” The honorees include top leaders in health IT, including Aneesh Chopra, chief technology officer for the United States, and David Blumenthal, the former national coordinator for health information technology.
“This award is a tribute to the work of our entire team and the leadership at Kaiser Permanente,” Fasano said. “It is a pleasure to be a part of an organization that leads the way through innovation, interoperability of electronic records, and standards of technology excellence to improve the quality of health care.
Health IT plays an important role in care delivery at Kaiser Permanente, with more than 15,000 physicians utilizing the organization’s electronic health record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, to coordinate care for 8.7 million members. Additionally, more than 3.3 million members use the integrated personal health record, My Health Manager on kp.org, to refill prescriptions, view lab test results, and securely e-mail their care teams, a practice that has been found to improve quality of care.
