Five Kaiser Permanente Professionals Chosen to Serve on Key Health IT Work Groups

Five Kaiser Permanente physicians and executives were selected to serve on work groups for the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology, the organization announced June 11.

CCHIT is a private nonprofit organization with the sole public mission of accelerating the adoption of robust, interoperable health IT by creating a credible, efficient certification process. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recognized CCHIT as a certifying body in 2006. CCHIT is the only organization to have received federal approval to certify health IT products and systems.

The Kaiser Permanente physicians and executives who were selected are:

  • Mark Binstock, MD, staff physician, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ohio Permanente Medical Group, Inc. — Advanced Clinical Decision Support work group
  • Mike Krall, MD, physician lead, Clinical Content and Decision Support, Northwest Permanente, P.C., Physicians and Surgeons — Advanced Clinical Decision Support work group
  • Peter Hendler, MD, staff physician, Rheumatology, The Permanente Medical Group — Interoperability work group
  • Jan Oldenburg, practice leader, Health Portfolio, Internet Services Group — Personal Health Records work group
  • Jamie Ferguson, executive director, Health IT Strategy and Polity, Kaiser Permanente Information Technology — Health Information Exchange work group

The commission based its selections on individual expertise as well as balancing the experience of previously participating volunteers with the opportunity to include fresh ideas from new participants. CCHIT received more than 1,100 applications for the 265 spots available on its work groups.
