Preston Maring, MD, and KP's Farmers' Markets Featured on Channel 7

Kaiser Permanente made headlines recently when Preston Maring, MD, who founded KP's farmers' market program, was featured in the San Francisco Bay Area on KGO Channel 7's primetime news July 5.

Thirty-eight Kaiser Permanente facilities now offer organic produce markets. Dr. Maring founded the first such market, at Oakland Medical Center, in May 2003. Maring recently received a Kellogg Foundation Food in Society Policy Fellowship for his work creating the farmers' markets. The fellowship is designed to help reach a goal of having 10 percent of the food sold in the United States, 10 years from now, be "good food" that is healthy and affordable.

In the interview, Maring talks about why good food is such a key ingredient in the recipe for healthy living. Kaiser Permanente physicians and employees, along with Kaiser Permanente members and also neighbors of Oakland Medical Center, are interviewed at the market.

For more, view the interview now on ABC Channel 7. You also can sign up for Dr. Maring's weekly recipe email—in which he provides a recipe geared to what's available that week in the farmers' markets.
