Kaiser Permanente CIO Interviewed on ZDNet.com
ZDNet.com recently featured an interview with Phil Fasano, Kaiser Permanente's chief information officer, in the influential web publication's "CIO Vision" series.
Fasano talked about the critical role technology plays in Kaiser Permanente's work improving patient outcomes by making health information more readily available to Kaiser Permanente's 8.7 million members and their caregivers.
Health care is increasingly moving to a "real-time" world, Fasano noted, and Kaiser Permanente's IT organization is creating and supporting that environment. The centerpiece of that is KP HealthConnect™, the world's largest civilian electronic medical records project. The health records comprise a tremendous resource, both for Kaiser Permanente's members and for their caregivers, and also for health researchers working to improve health care inside Kaiser Permanente and worldwide.
"In this organization," Fasano said, "improvement to patient outcomes is the most fundamental measure of our success. We really do create value for our members in that we help them essentially stay healthy and improve their health."
ZDNet.com's "CIO Vision" series has interviewed chief information officers from some of the world's largest and most innovative organizations. Some recent interviews have tapped CIOs from Boeing, Harvard Medical School, Oxfam, UC Berkeley, Yahoo!, and Virgin Entertainment Group.
