Barbara Smisko Appointed to the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board

Barbara Smisko, executive director of national environmental, health and safety for Kaiser Permanente, has been appointed to the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board.
The OSHSB, a seven-member body appointed by the governor, is the standards-setting agency within the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. The board’s mission is to promote, adopt, and maintain reasonable and enforceable standards that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for California workers.
“I’m honored to help ensure all California workplaces are safe and healthy,” Smisko said.
Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente in 1994, Smisko was senior staff representative for environmental compliance at United Airlines from 1991 to 1994, project manager at ENSR Corporation from 1988 to 1991 and a trainer at IT Corporation from 1985 to 1988. Smisko is a certified safety professional and a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and the Disability Management Employer Coalition.
