Kaiser Permanente Employees Give Back to the Community for Martin Luther King Day of Service

600 employees and family members expected to serve Colorado communities with a day ON, not OFF

 

 

WHAT:

National Day of Service to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kaiser Permanente physicians, staff and family members will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy with a day ON instead of a day OFF, to help those in need. Kaiser Permanente employees will be volunteering at 30 nonprofits throughout metro-Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins as part of their annual MLK Day of Service.

 

 

WHO:

In partnership with Metro Volunteers, this year nearly 600 Kaiser Permanente employees will take part in the annual MLK Day of Service.

 

 

WHY:

Kaiser Permanente’s mission is to provide high quality, affordable health care services to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve. Community service and volunteerism have been part of our Colorado heritage for more than 40 years.

 

 

WHEN:

8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 16, 2012 (see below for project times)

Project Angel Heart
4950 Washington St., Denver
**Volunteers will cook nutritious meals for those coping with life-threatening illness.

 

 

 

Project C.U.R.E
10377 East Geddes Ave., Centennial
**Volunteers will sort medical supplies and pack a container to be delivered to Cagayan de Oro City, a port city in the state of Misamis Oriental in southern Philippines where the flooding occurred last December.

 

 

 

Bessie’s Hope
10:30 a.m., 461 East Asbury Circle, Denver
**Volunteers will visit and play games with senior citizens. For many seniors, this is the only time they have visitors to enjoy activities.

 

 

 

Denver Urban Gardens
8770 East 13th Ave., Denver
**Volunteers will help construct a new community garden in a low-income neighborhood.

 

 

 

Clothes to Kids
2890 S. Colorado Blvd., Suite M-3, Denver
**Volunteers will assist clients shopping for clothes for their school-aged children.

Boys & Girls Club, Shopneck
1800 Longspeak, Brighton
**Volunteers will organize “field day” activities and participate in several service projects to benefit local agencies serving a variety of issues.

2:30–3:30 p.m. — Gov. John Hickenlooper and Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia will volunteer and participate in events and activities with youth from the club. Kaiser Permanente President Donna Lynne, DrPH, will also participate.
