HEAL Grant Lends Helping Hand to Community

Kaiser Permanente Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary with $10,000 Grant

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Kaiser Permanente’s Alpharetta Medical Center, KP of Georgia presented a $10,000 Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) grant to New Prospect Elementary School in Alpharetta in a luau-themed ceremony that took place Tuesday, May 24 at the facility.

Alpharetta Mayor Arthur Letchas was on hand at the celebration and presented a proclamation to Kaiser Permanente officials to commemorate the anniversary of the Alpharetta Medical Center.

Charlia Faulkner, principal of New Prospect Elementary School announced the school will use the funds to replace temporary classrooms with permanent playground equipment.  Faulkner hopes the new playground will increase physical activity which would decrease childhood obesity.

"Both Alpharetta and the medical center have grown at such a rapid pace, Kaiser Permanente is extremely honored to be a part of this thriving community and to serve the people of Alpharetta and surrounding communities," said Jenny Wingard, regional director of Kaiser Permanente primary care.

When the Kaiser Permanente Alpharetta Medical Office first opened its doors in 1995, five clinicians provided adult and pediatric services in a yet-to-be-developed neighborhood off Georgia 400.  Today, 13 clinicians and 47 staffers serve nearly 15,000 Kaiser Permanente members.

Kaiser Permanente is the state of Georgia's largest nonprofit health plan, serving the health care needs of Atlanta metro area residents for 22 years. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia, Inc. currently provides comprehensive health care services to approximately 275,000 members through 15 medical facilities in a 28-county service, and a network of affiliated hospitals and physicians. The Health Plan provided more than $5 million in community benefit programs and services.
