Free Cooking Demonstrations Highlight Opening Day of 3rd Annual Green Market
ATLANTA, Ga. – Enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of Atlanta's most unique outdoor market. Back for its third year, Piedmont Park’s Green Market, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, features organic fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, baked goods and handmade crafts.
With childhood obesity on the rise, opening day will feature healthy cooking demonstrations from Kaiser Permanente Chef Joe Englebird at 11 a.m. He will prepare recipes from "Recipes Fit for Kids," a kid-friendly guide to healthy eating.
Four junior chefs will help prove that healthy food does not have to taste bad. The children – ages 9 to 13 – will assist Chef Englebird during the healthy cooking demonstration and pass out copies of the recipe book. The cooking demonstrations are free and open to the public.
"The Green Market introduces a cross-section of people to fresh fruits and vegetables and promotes healthy cooking. We encourage all employees and clinicians to visit the Green Market and to take some time to thrive," said Evonne Yancey, Director of Government and Community Affairs.
Farmers and merchants will line Piedmont Park’s 12th Street entrance Saturday mornings beginning May 5 through October 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to the farmer’s market, Green Market features children’s activities, tours of the park and live music. This event is free and open to the public.
Kaiser Permanente is the state of Georgia's largest nonprofit health plan, serving the health care needs of Atlanta metro area residents for 22 years. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia, Inc. currently provides comprehensive health care services to approximately 275,000 members through 15 medical facilities in a 28-county service, and a network of affiliated hospitals and physicians.
