Kaiser Permanente Opens New Medical Office In Downtown Decatur

GEORGIA EXPANSION INITIATIVE

ATLANTA — Kaiser Permanente announced today the grand opening of a new medical office in downtown Decatur to provide expert health care service. Dignitaries from state and county institutions were on hand for the event.

Members of the Georgia Legislature and DeKalb County attended the grand opening, including Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver; Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon, DeKalb County Commissioners; Burrell Ellis, DeKalb County CEO; Bill Floyd, Mayor of Decatur; Jackie Ginn, vice president of the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce; and Scott Drake, president of the Decatur Business Association.

As part of the grand opening, Kaiser Permanente presented a $10,000 grant to the Decatur Education Foundation to fund its “Farm to School” initiative, a grassroots effort to connect Decatur schools with local farms to help improve student nutrition and engage students in the practice of farming.

“This generous grant from Kaiser Permanente will help bring positive change to the lives of Decatur’s children,” said Gail Rothman, executive director of the Decatur Education Foundation. “We know that healthy kids learn better and have better outcomes and are proud to support this important project.”

Located in the Artisan Building at 201 W. Ponce De Leon Ave., the 5,000-plus square foot Downtown Decatur Medical Office includes exam rooms, laboratory, pharmacy and basic radiology. This is the second of several medical offices that Kaiser Permanente plans to open through metro Atlanta in 2010.

Decatur native Shaana Hanagud, MD, is the office’s Family Medicine physician. Luke Beno, MD, who comes from the Cascade Medical Office in Atlanta, provides pediatric care. Both offer added convenience and expert service to members who choose this location for their care.

Kaiser Permanente members in the area who want to select the Downtown Decatur Medical Office for their health care needs can contact the Health Line at (404) 365-0966, connect to www.kp.org or visit the location.
