New Kaiser Permanente Medical Center Coming to West Cobb
West Cobb first of four new medical locations planned within two years
ATLANTA — Construction is underway for a new Kaiser Permanente medical center on the East-West Connector stretch, one of the county’s fastest growing areas.
The 26,000 square foot medical facility in West Cobb is slated to open early 2007, providing another option for approximately 24,000 members who currently seek care at Kaiser Permanente’s Cumberland Medical Center off of I-285 and Paces Ferry Road in Atlanta.
The new West Cobb facility is part of a $35 million, two-year construction project to increase access for Kaiser Permanente’s growing membership. The health plan experienced a 6.4 percent growth rate in 2005 and expects similar growth this year.
In addition to the West Cobb location, Kaiser Permanente will build three medical facilities in several other counties. Locations for those future sites have not been determined. Once the expansion project is completed, Kaiser Permanente will operate 16 medical centers in a 20-county service area in metro Atlanta.
Once fully staffed, the new West Cobb medical facility will have 27 exam rooms, laboratory and radiology services and an onsite pharmacy offering both prescription and over-the-counter medications. The facility will be initially staffed by physicians who practice in internal medicine and pediatrics with some limited gynecological services. Obstetrics services will be added at a later date.
Kaiser Permanente has been meeting the health care needs of Georgians for more than 20 years. Today, the health plan cares for approximately 286,000 patients through 12 medical centers, physicians in the Southeast Permanente Medical Group or through a network of community physicians. The health plan currently operates medical centers in Alpharetta, Cumming, Duluth, Jonesboro, Kennesaw, Lithonia, McDonough, Tucker and four centers in Atlanta.
Kaiser Permanente is the state of Georgia's largest nonprofit health plan, serving the health care needs of Atlanta metro area residents for 22 years. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Georgia, Inc. currently provides comprehensive health care services to approximately 275,000 members through 15 medical facilities in a 28-county service, and a network of affiliated hospitals and physicians. The Health Plan provided more than $5 million in community benefit programs and services.
