Flu Shot Saturday Kicks Off Kaiser Permanente’s Fall Influenza Campaign

ATLANTA – On Saturday, Oct. 27, Kaiser Permanente of Georgia will kick off its annual fall influenza campaign with Flu Shot Saturday at 15 medical facilities.

On Flu Shot Saturday, flu shots are free for all Kaiser Permanente members from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Non-members who are caregivers to Kaiser Permanente members can get a flu shot for $20.  Pneumococcal vaccines are also available.

"Influenza is a viral infection that makes people prone to pneumonia. The Centers for Disease Control recommends a flu shot for anyone who wishes to decrease their chance of getting influenza this winter, not just those with an underlying medical condition," said Juanita Cone, MD, chief of Population Based Care, Prevention and Health Promotion for Kaiser Permanente.

In addition to Flu Shot Saturday, Kaiser Permanente members will have the following opportunities to receive a flu shot:

  • Daytime/Weekdays:  October 30 – November 21
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at all KP medical centers
    9 a.m.–noon and 2–5 p.m.*

*Note: The Brookwood Medical Center hours are 7–11 a.m. and 1–3 p.m.

  • After-Hours:  October 30 – November 25
    After-Hour Centers are Cumberland, Southwood and Gwinnett medical centers
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6–9 p.m.
    Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.


Who Should Get Flu Shots

  • Persons age 50 years and older
  • Persons age 2-64 who have a medical condition such as:  diabetes, heart disease, asthma, kidney disease, sickle cell anemia, HIV-AIDS, stroke, multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s Disease
  • Pregnant women
  • Health care workers
  • Children age 6-59 months
  • Children age 6 months – 18 years if on chronic aspirin therapy
  • Caregivers of high risk individuals
  • Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
  • Anyone who wants to avoid getting the flu
