Kaiser Permanente Video Awarded Bronze “Telly”
Continued Recognition in Diversity - Video Defines Intercultural Communication
OAKLAND, Calif. – Kaiser Permanente has been awarded a Bronze “Telly” for the outstanding achievement of its video production, “Understanding the Cultural Framework of Communication.” The educational video, produced by Kaiser Permanente National Diversity, introduces the components of intercultural communication and how they influence interactions in the workplace.
With 8.5 million members and 154,000 employees, Kaiser Permanente brings together members and staff of widely diverse backgrounds, values, beliefs, and norms. Quality patient care and effective teamwork depend on the ability to understand and communicate effectively. “Understanding the Cultural Framework of Communication” engages the audience with clear examples of differences in communication styles and health practices, offering pragmatic solutions for the cultural clashes that can ensue between biomedical culture and the patient’s culture. The DVD includes a comprehensive facilitator’s guide and participant’s guide; two versions of the video offer flexibility with audiences and meeting length.
“This award validates the creativity and high standards that go into Kaiser Permanente’s efforts to create an environment in which our members can receive culturally and linguistically responsive care,” stated Gayle Tang, director, national linguistic and cultural programs. “We are deeply committed to providing culturally competent health care, and communication is a vital part of that.”
Founded in 1978, The Telly Awards annually showcase the best work of advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments. Widely respected, over 12,000 international entries are received annually.
