Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals Announces Promotions of Kathy Lancaster, Arthur M. Southam, MD, and Bernard Tyson

OAKLAND, Calif. – Three senior executives at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals have been promoted to executive vice president positions.

"I am very pleased to announce the promotions of three members of our senior leadership team," said KFHP/KFH CEO and Chairman George C. Halvorson. "These promotions are well deserved. They reflect greater levels of accountability, as well as added focus on operational improvements, increased efficiencies and heightened coordination of key activities at Kaiser Permanente."

Kathy Lancaster, who has been senior vice president of strategic planning and chief financial officer since 2005, has been promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals.

Arthur M. Southam, MD, who joined Kaiser Permanente in 2001 as senior vice president, Product and Market Management, has been named executive vice president, Health Plan Operations.

Bernard Tyson, who was appointed senior vice president for Health Plan and Hospital Operations in 2006, has been named executive vice president, Health Plan and Hospital Operations.

Following the announcement, Mitch Goodstein, senior vice president of pricing and provider contracting for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and president of Kaiser Permanente Insurance Co., will report to Lancaster, as well as to Southam.

Lancaster, an executive with 26 years experience in the health care industry, joined Kaiser Permanente in 1998, serving as its senior vice president of Strategic Planning and Analysis. Since her appointment to the CFO position in 2005, Lancaster has overseen the controller's office, treasury, procurement and supply, financial shared services functions, and strategic planning. She has also led finance teams of the revenue cycle function, Sarbanes-Oxley implementation, and KP HealthConnect™, Kaiser Permanente's integrated electronic medical records system.

Dr. Southam has a long record of achievement in the health care industry and has worked with leaders throughout the Kaiser Permanente program since joining the organization. During this time, he has held national responsibility for the health plan's administrative functions, including those for membership, claims and member services.

Tyson, who began his career at Kaiser Permanente in 1984, currently leads Kaiser Permanente's eight regional presidents, while overseeing the organization's national facility services, workplace safety, patient care services, and, national health plan and hospital operations divisions.

Now, as executive vice presidents, Lancaster, Southam and Tyson will have the added responsibilities of looking across the organization to identify opportunities for coordinated performance planning and new efficiencies.
