Kaiser Permanente VP of Online Services Appointed to Google Council

Anna-Lisa Silvestre to participate in health advisory group

OAKLAND, Calif. – Kaiser Permanente and Google today announced the selection of Anna-Lisa Silvestre, vice president of online services, to Google's newly formed Health Advisory Council.

The Google Health Advisory Council was created to help Google better understand the problems consumers and health providers face in the healthcare system today. Council members will offer Google feedback on ideas for new products and services that will empower consumers with their healthcare decisions. Silvestre will join other experts from provider organizations, consumer and disease-based groups, physician-based organizations, research institutions, and health care policy foundations, to share Kaiser Permanente's experience in engaging its members through kp.org.

"Our interests align closely with Google's efforts to improve health search for consumers, and to use information to improve access to health care and support consumers to understand what's going on with their health," states Silvestre. "We are interested in providing consultation on how to support consumers more broadly in these areas."

Kaiser Permanente, America's largest integrated health plan, is widely recognized as the leader in online health services. The expansion of online services for members is part of an organization-wide commitment to patient-centered care.

By providing all members a personal health record that is linked seamlessly with our electronic health record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect™ helps consumers proactively manage their own care in partnership with their doctors.

The secure member portal on kp.org gives members the option of e-mailing their doctors, receiving lab test results, ordering prescription refills and making appointments. More than 1.5 million Kaiser Permanente members are registered and active users of these features.

Silvestre has led Kaiser Permanente's efforts in this area for over ten years. She has a background in health education, interactive health technologies and Internet, and a master's degree in Public Health Education from University of California, Berkeley.
