Kaiser Permanente funds nursing scholarships at Clark College

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Kaiser Permanente staff and volunteers in Vancouver have been able to double the amount they contribute to help nursing students at Clark College continue their education. Money raised from book fairs held at Kaiser Permanente's medical offices in Clark County have raised $3,000 a year for nurse scholarships during each of the past three years. But increased sales at the last round of book fairs means that Kaiser Permanente will be able to send a check for $6,000 this year - enough to assist six nursing students with $1,000 each.

"With the increasing demand for nurses in this region, this additional support comes at a crucial time," says Clark College's Nursing Program Director Shelly Quint. "Kaiser Permanente's ongoing generosity helps contribute to the success of our nursing students."

James Farley, area administrator for Kaiser Permanente's Clark County facilities states that the medical care organization's staff and volunteers are happy to contribute to educating future nurses. "We're proud to support with our book sales local people who want to become nurses. The need is certainly growing, both for more nurses and for more help in funding education," says Farley.

The Kaiser Permanente scholarship program is designed to assist middle-income students who are not eligible for need-based grants and whose funding options are limited. Students must have completed their prerequisites and been accepted into the nursing program while maintaining between a 2.5 and 3.5 GPA to be eligible for this scholarship support. Students submitting standard Clark College Scholarship Applications prior to the April 11 deadline will be considered for these Kaiser Permanente scholarships for the 2003-2004 academic year.
