Kaiser Permanente sponsors free presentation on life in World War II Kaiser shipyards
Oregon historian edited book about shipyard life
PORTLAND, Ore. –is sponsoring a free slide-show presentation by local historian Lois Mack about the life and times of the men and women who worked in the World War II Kaiser shipyards in Vancouver and Portland. The hour-long presentations are open to the public as a commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Kaiser Permanente, which grew out of the wartime health plan that served shipyard workers and their families. Kaiser Permanente helped fund the publishing of a book about life in the shipyards. Mack edited the book and provided illustrations for it using paintings and photographs created by shipyard workers. Kaiser Permanente is donating the book to every branch of the Multnomah County library system and to libraries in Hillsboro, Salem, Vancouver, Longview and Kelso.
