Kaiser Permanente Volunteers Offer Service on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

CLEVELAND — Kaiser Permanente will once again honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a day of volunteering on Monday, January 18. This special day provides employees and physicians with the opportunity to volunteer at designated community organizations in a meaningful way, without compromising our ability to provide essential services or access to care for members. This year, our employees and physicians are invited to participate with students at Cleveland’s John F. Kennedy High School, 17100 Harvard Ave. Cleveland, OH 44128.

The theme of this year’s volunteer is “The Fierce Urgency of Now.” The day will begin at 7:00 a.m. with a student-driven service project in collaboration with Kaiser Permanente team members, JFK alumni, Neighborhood Leadership Institute, and various community and faith organizations. Volunteers will assist in painting the boys and girls locker room and a peer mentoring/study tables classroom, and the restoration of display cases in the school’s main hallway.

Following the service project, a public celebration program will begin at noon. The program will feature inspirational music and dance selections, a Karamu Performing Arts Theatre presentation, dramatization and reenactment of the Woolworth sit-ins by a JFK 9th grade English class, video vignettes, and student recognition for academic achievement. Ginn Academy founder and Executive Director Ted Ginn, Sr. will provide the keynote address at the program.
