Kaiser Permanente Ohio to Sponsor Weekly Farmer’s Market at 9th Street Pier
CLEVELAND — With its locally grown produce and a great location for downtown office workers, the 2011 North Coast Harbor Farmer’s Market is about to get underway — proudly sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Ohio. The market will attract employees, residents and visitors in search of great food choices that promote agricultural awareness. Located on the North Coast Harbor at the E. 9th Street Pier, it’s the perfect place to shop for groceries and enjoy a relaxing lakefront lunch. Eating healthy, nutritious food is part of Kaiser Permanente’s message to our members, and sponsorship of this market is a perfect fit.
“I enjoy cooking with fresh fruits and vegetables, and encourage my patients to do the same,” says Ronald Adams, MD, regional chief of Internal Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Ohio. The market has been well-attended the past two years, by thousands of downtown workers looking for healthy summer fare.
The Farmer’s Market and Lunch on the Lake will take place every Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., June 2 through Sept. 8, 2011.
Current vendors include: Noah Hershberger — Amish Farmer; Naturally Yours Farms — vegetables, herbs, seeds (for eating, birds and flour), and fresh-cut flowers; Dever Dairy — various cheeses, peanut butter, almond butter, butter, fresh eggs, honey; Blaze Gourmet — salsas and hot sauces; Ragin’ Woody’s Treats — organic dog treats; Trubadore Coffee and the Biscotti Factory — mother-and-son cookies and coffee team; Chris’ Kitchen Stow — homemade jellies, jams, preserves; OH Baby Cakes Bakery — cupcakes and other baked goods; Stacey — vegan chocolate. The vendor list continues to grow. Kaiser Permanente will sponsor several events at the market throughout the summer.
Kaiser Permanente is a national leader in the farmers market movement. In May 2003, a Kaiser Permanente physician, Preston Maring, MD, founded a farmers market at the Kaiser Permanente Oakland (Calif.) Medical Center. The community embraced the market, and now Kaiser Permanente operates and sponsors more than 35 farmers markets in six states.
