Univision 34 and Kaiser Permanente Southern California partner to bring "Lead a healthy life" messages to the Hispanic community
LOS ANGELES and PASADENA, Calif. – Univision 34 and Kaiser Permanente Southern California today announced a partnership to develop and produce a series of health messages, interviews and stories designed to promote healthy lifestyles and provide prevention information that will help in the early detection and management of chronic health conditions affecting the Hispanic community.
Weekly vignettes and news segments with the theme "Lead a healthy life, get the facts" ("Salud es Vida—Entérate") will feature physicians from the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG) providing expert preventive care advice and medical information, along with health-related success stories.
Hispanics get a significant amount of health information from the media and especially from television," said Jorge Delgado, President and General Manager of Univision 34 and Telefutura 46, Los Angeles. "This is why we are so delighted to have Kaiser Permanente Southern California as our premier health care partner for Entérate."
"It has been a long-standing goal of mine to see a health initiative such as this develop from concept to fully realized campaign," said Richard Cordova, President of the Kaiser Permanente Southern California Region. "It is a natural partnership between the top-rated television station and the top-rated health care provider in Southern California."
"This campaign expands our commitment to improving the health of our community," said Gonzalo Garreton, MD, SCPMG consultant to the Entérate campaign. "I am proud that SCPMG is playing a significant role in a health initiative that will reach millions of Hispanics, helping them to be better informed about important health care issues."
Key health care concerns include: Asthma, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sexual health issues—including HIV/AIDS STDs— immunization, prenatal care, infant mortality, tobacco cessation, obesity, physical activity and nutrition.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Hispanics are 1.7 times more likely to die of cancer, 1.4 times more likely to die of coronary heart disease and more than 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with AIDS than whites.
