Kaiser Permanente Fontana takes a Day ON in honor of MLK

FONTANTA, Calif. – More than 100 staff members from throughout Kaiser Permanente's Fontana Medical Center will volunteer at five local agencies in the medical center's annual Day ON, not a Day Off celebration of MLK Day.

The scores of Kaiser Permanente staff, which includes managers and employees, will perform an array of duties ranging from preparing and serving meals to the homeless to building homes for low income families.

"We are so proud of the number of volunteers we were able to send out to the community this year," said Twania Lillard, co chair of the medical center's diversity committee and its director of education. "Our employees have really stepped up, and we are confident they will continue their volunteerism throughout the year."

Kaiser Permanente's Day ON follows a Volunteer Recruitment Fair held at the medical center on January 15 and 17. During the fair, more than 20 Inland Empire non-profit agencies presented their agency's volunteer opportunities to employees of the medical center. Nearly 200 Kaiser Permanente Fontana employees visited the fair.

Agencies benefiting from Kaiser Permanente Fontana's Day ON are Foothill Family Shelter; Family Services Association, Redlands; Mary's Mercy Table; Second Harvest Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.

One of the nation's largest healthcare systems, Kaiser Permanente has provided comprehensive, affordable health care to members in San Bernardino County for more than 60 years. Kaiser Permanente's facilities in San Bernardino County include medical offices in Fontana, Chino, Colton, Victorville, Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Loma Linda, Ontario and Montclair. Kaiser Permanente will also open a new medical office in Redlands later this year.
